Since the beginning of March, the Gazette has reported on four separate suspected arson attacks around town.

From cars to houses to flats, each has rocked the town in its own way.

But what is the latest on these cases and how are police progressing with their investigations?

Popley house destroyed in a suspected arson attack

Basingstoke Gazette:

On March 13, about 30 firefighters spent three hours tackling a two-storey house blaze which which spread to the lofts of neighbouring properties in Ascension Close, Popley

A 57-year-old man was arrested at the time on suspicion of arson.

Police have today revealed that the suspect was released with no further action and that it remains an open case.

Priestly Road fire

Basingstoke Gazette:

Police were called by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service at 1.52pm on Monday, April 6, to a report of a fire on Priestley Road. The fire caused no injuries.

A 36-year-old man, Darren Puttock from Basingstoke, was arrested and later charged on suspicion of arson, reckless as to whether life was endangered.

His case has been listed for a plea and trial preparation hearing on July 15 at Winchester Crown Court.

Investigation after car 'deliberately set on fire' outside victim's home

Basingstoke Gazette:

On May 23, an arson investigation was launched after it was believed that a car was set on fire in Mortimer West End, just outside of Tadley.

A spokesman for Hampshire police said at the time that they believed the fire was deliberately set.

Today police have said that this case was investigated, but has been filed pending further lines of enquiry coming to light.

Car destroyed after fire

Basingstoke Gazette:

The fourth incident happened this week in Woolhampton Drive.

Video captured smoke coming off a Vauxhall Astra after it was allegedly set on fire on July 1.

Once again, police launched an arson investigation and are looking to see if the incident is linked to any other investigations. There have been no arrests.

Firefighters battled another car fire on July 2 in Paddock Road. It has not been confirmed whether an arson investigation is underway.
