As the churchwardens and lay chair of St Mary’s Church in Burnham we would like to thank the members of the congregation and the wider town for all their support since the church had to close at the end of March. We would particularly like to thank Canon Lionel Webber, who has led our Zoom services and provided us with well-needed guidance.

In line with guidance from the Government, the Church of England and the Chelmsford Diocese we are aiming to open the church for a 10am Sunday Eucharist from this Sunday, July 5. There will obviously have to be social distancing and sanitising processes in place, and movement round the church will be limited. In addition, there will be no singing and all service material will be single use and have to be disposed of at the end of the service, so there will be no hymn or service books in use. We are also aiming to continue to Zoom the service for those who are still isolating.

In addition, the church will be open for supervised private prayer from 10am-noon every Wednesday, from July 8. Again, the necessary measures will be in place to ensure those attending are kept safe and well.

We look forward to welcoming the people of Burnham and the wider Dengie back to St Mary’s.
