20mph speed limit signs have gone up as part of Maldon High Street Recover Plan.
The new speed limits have been implemented today (Tuesday, June 23) to encourage people to support local businesses by increasing pedestrian and cyclist confidence on the High Street.
The action forms part of the ambitious COVID-19 High Street Recovery Plan, developed using the High Street Task Force Framework.
The Framework is designed to help take the most effective action now, and to build the capacity for recovery and longer-term transformation and is funded by the Reopening High Streets Safely Fund.
Cllr Adrian Fluker, Leader of Maldon District Council, said: "Helping our High Street businesses to reopen safely has been a key focus for us.
"I am delighted that we have been able to work with Essex County Council to implement reduced speed limits and we are ambitious to do even more."
As the high street moves into the second phase of recover, Maldon District Council want to hear your views to identify changes.
