VOLUNTEERS have been out in in force as Maldon town centre started to reopen this week.

The specially-trained team is working seven days a week to gather information about pedestrian numbers at strategic locations in the town and to support businesses as they reopen.

Maldon District Council hopes to build up a picture of local footfall which will help businesses to adapt.

They could be urged to opening at different times to extend the capacity of the High Street.

Council leader Adrian Fluker said: “Helping our High Street businesses to reopen safely has been a key focus for us.

"We are extremely grateful to the volunteers who have come forward to support us.

"Please say hello to them when you see them, and join us in thanking them for the work they are doing to support our community.”

The council is also asking residents and businesses to have their say on where it needs to widen pavements, by visiting widenmypath.com.
