"Derrick was a Health and Fire Safety Consultant working at The Whittington Hospital in London.

"Previously he worked at Broomfield and Whipps Cross hospitals, was a fireman with the Essex Fire Brigade and served in the Royal Navy as a Radio Operator.

"Derrick was a volunteer with SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity and was a pivotal member of their mentoring team.

"He belonged to the RNA and was also a member of The Little Ships Club in Maldon.

"He loved Arsenal FC, was a season ticket holder and would meet his brother at the Emirates Stadium on a regular basis.

"Derrick was an active and much loved member of the community, volunteering at Maldon & District Community Voluntary Service and also helping out as a wheelchair buddy when called upon at Action for Family Carers.

"He made lots of friends at Maldon Bowls Club, Danbury Dancing Club, The Maldon Promenaders and multiple choirs including The Royal Opera House Community Choir.

"Derrick was a wonderful man, kind and generous, greatly loved and will be missed by so many. His family would like to thank everyone for their cards, flowers, letters, poems and kind words."
