A budding writer has had her work published in a national student magazine.

Isabel Weeks Hankins, who is a year 12 student at Plume Academy has been featuring as one of the top trending articles on The Llama, a popular student magazine, for over two weeks.

Isabel originally wrote the article for a homework assignment, but after classroom debates she decided to submit the article.

Isabel said: "I discovered the Llama magazine through my English teacher Miss Walls. I thought this would be an excellent opportunity for me to further my skills in writing in the world of journalism, as this is what I wish to study at University.

"After many debates in the classroom on the effects feminism and gender equality has on our language, I became very passionate about the topic and I think that made me even more determined to write a quality article.

"During these quite unpredictable times I think I speak for all students when I say there have been good days and bad days.

"Adapting to a routine has definitely been the hardest thing about this lockdown.

"Every week is different which keeps me on my toes. As we are obviously at home 7 days a week it is difficult to differentiate between social time and work time.

"Choosing between doing work or going on a walk with the family almost cause a mental argument in my head - should I go or should I stay indoors? But through all that it has taught me to be more self disciplined and more organised which will help me in the future."

Isabel is about to have another article published on the website entitled 'Lockdown Beauty Hacks'.

Chris Barton, Head of Year 12 and 13 at Plume Academy said: "We are very proud of Issy including Miss Walls who is the inspirational member of staff who encouraged Issy to get involved."
