AN army of well wishers have raised more than £2,000 to help a Southampton charity during the coronavirus crisis.

Regular Rose Road Association supporter Jan Peirson and her friends and supporters have made the donation to the charity's emergency respite appeal.

The Association has been amazed by the support of their local community, receiving over £3,000 in donations and some amazing gifts of food, and supplies such as hand sanitiser, hand cream and gloves.

However, the charity has stressed that this is only the beginning of their journey, they are determined to stay open to support as many families as possible and will need the community more than ever.

Chloe Atkins, Head of Fundraising at Rose Road, said ‘‘We’re so very grateful to Jan and her friends for their support of our emergency respite appeal, and to everyone else who has donated. We are continuing to provide advice and information, respite and outreach support to families at a time when they will need this support the most. Whilst our dedicated care teams work around the clock to ensure we stay open we are hearing from more and more families who are struggling.”

Jan Peirson, who is an ambassador for Rose Road, added: ‘‘I love to help Rose Road and so do my friends, when I told them about the emergency appeal they all agreed we should help! We do all sorts to raise money normally and we also make lots of friends doing our charity work. This is a local charity here in Southampton who needs help especially now. If you’re able to give, please do!"

Rose Road Association has been at the heart of Southampton since 1952. They offer essential short breaks and support to disabled children, young adults and their families. During the current Coronavirus crisis the charity is appealing to the local community for help.
