Wimbledon Foodbank is in desperate need of donations after demands soar within the borough in response to the outbreak.

The foodbank project, which is founded by local churches and community groups, has set up a crowdfunding page in a bid to meet the drastic increase in demands.

Since the outbreak, the foodbank has seen several volunteers go into self-isolation and are now struggling to meet demands due to the drastic decrease in resources.

In a bid to raise donations, the foodbank has reached out to Wimbledon Times.

A spokesperson for Wimbledon Foodbank said: “We continue to hear reports of families that have no money and no food and this breaks our hearts.

“Single parents who are isolating with young children who have no way to buy food.

“We are moved to do whatever we can to help them however, without donations we are helpless.

“Many times, our volunteers are moved to tears when they hear of the situations people are facing.

“We are very grateful for all of the support so far; however, we are still in the situation where donations are down and demand is high.

“We are having to purchase food to meet demand and we believe this problem will only get worse over the next few weeks as people are still living on their last paycheque.

“Any support would be greatly appreciated.”
