A major event in Colchester is still planned to go ahead despite the outbreak of coronavirus.

More than 3,500 runners will be taking to the streets again for the tenth Colchester Half Marathon.

The milestone race will be held on Sunday, March 29.

Organisers hope to raise more than £60,000 for charity.

In a message to participants organisers said the race would be going ahead as planned, unless advice from the government changed.

It said: "Important message for all entrants.

"At present the 2020 Griffin Chapman Colchester Half Marathon is going ahead.

"This is in accordance with government guidelines which at present impose no restrictions on gatherings of this size.

"There may be more guidance nearer to the date, if so we will email all entrants and update our social media."
