A TEAM of big-hearted bell-ringers have put a jingle in the pockets of a mental health charity.

All Saints’ Maldon Handbell Ringers spread Christmas cheer in December by performing at several sheltered housing complexes in and around the town.

They also entertained supermarket shoppers outside Tesco and Sainsbury, where they collected donations.

The team have now handed over a cheque for just over £1,000 to the Mid and North Essex branch of mental health charity Mind.

As well as their charity performances, the ringers took part in the BBC Essex carol service at Chelmsford Cathedral, the All Saints’ Christmas tree festival and a retirees’ Christmas lunch in Shenfield.

They also performed carols in the atrium at Chelmsford’s Broomfield Hospital to entertain patients and visitors there.
