A SHOP is hoping to launch new a tradition by inviting villagers to take part in fun race.
The first annual Purleigh pancake race will be hosted by the Purleigh Community Shop this Saturday.
The event takes place a few days before Shrove Tuesday, on February 25.
Shop spokesman John Challis said: “The idea came about because we were talking at our committee meeting about what we could do in the quiet post-Christmas period to get people out and involved in some sort of seasonal activity.
“The school usually organises an Easter egg hunt, so that was out, and so a pancake race was suggested.
“We went for the Saturday rather than Shrove Tuesday itself, to give children and working parents a chance to join in the fun.”
The winner will receive a small prize.
The race begins at midday at the shop and entrants should bring their own pan.
