The Bradwell B project’s community newsletter (February 2020) made interesting reading.

Not a fan of nuclear power, I do understand that we probably have little choice but to invest in it alongside renewables to reach zero carbon emissions by 2050.

New nuclear reactors are much safer and cleverer at handling waste than the 1960s Bradwell A was and maybe we aren’t far away from nuclear fusion?

Love it or hate it, Bradwell B could bring tremendous opportunities for our Dengie Peninsula.

Firstly tens of thousands of jobs will be created requiring ranges of skills and qualifications particularly in construction and the so called STEM careers: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Let’s make sure our local youngsters are being properly trained to get those jobs.

Secondly, the Dengie has the potential to become the greenest, most carbon neutral place in the country with our wind turbines and potential wave power.

So, Bradwell B investors, here is your challenge.... please spend some of those £millions of infrastructure money on building a network of cycle paths criss-crossing our peninsula to facilitate greener and healthier travel from village to village, school to home, home to place of work.

It would be an fantastic help to get people out of their cars, children cycling to schools, people cycling to stations, shops and to visit friends.

Pollution would be curtailed and altogether the whole Bradwell B project could bring huge dividends for local people.... work for all, fitter people, and a greener, cleaner place to live. Let’s become a little Holland of the East.
