ONE wonders why our councils and planners are not up to the task of keeping the developers up to their promises.

A recent example is the Charles Church development on Southminster Road in Burnham, where it was agreed the developers would put up and maintain streetlights for the stretch of road which their housing estate faced.

Apart from two lighting standards which have been put up, together with an electrical cable which sticks out of the ground, nothing has been done.

The lights have not been connected and the agreed number of lighting standards have not been built.

It seems until Charles Church actually puts forward its offer to build what the council requires, and it is agreed by the council, then nothing more need be done – a situation that could last for untold years along a dark stretch of road.
