A CHARITY which supports young carers across the county is the latest group to receive a vital cash boost.

Maldon-based Action for Family Carers has received a £1,000 cash injection as part of a housebuilder’s community scheme.

Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme has been donating to charities in the district to give back to the communities they build in.

Heather Beach, of Action for Family Carers, said: “This is fantastic boost for our charity, and we are so grateful to Persimmon Homes Essex.

“Our young carers clubs give individuals the opportunity to have time to themselves in a safe environment, away from home responsibilities and enables them to socialise with other young carers.

“The group hosts a range of activities which are designed to help youngsters explore their feelings, build confidence as well as enjoy some relaxation.”

The group is reliant on donations to continue supporting young carers through meetings and activities where they can meet peers in a friendly and relaxed environment.

The charity applied for the funding towards its Young Carers support service.

The scheme provides one-to-one or group support in schools, helping individuals to achieve their potential by assisting them with managing their schoolwork alongside caring roles.

Persimmon boss Phil Standen said: “We are delighted to be able to help them in this way.

“The role of a carer often goes unnoticed by the outside world.”
