Two teenagers have appeared in court charged with murder following the death of Birstall man Robert Wilson.

The 53-year-old died in an incident near the Thornton & Ross pharmaceutical company, in the Linthwaite area of Huddersfield, on Thursday evening.

Kiyran Earnshaw, 18, of Field Lane, Batley and a 15-year-old Huddersfield male, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Leeds Magistrates Court today.

Earnshaw has also been charged with two offences of possession of a bladed article and a section 18 assault on a 39-year-old man in the same incident.

The 15-year-old has also been charged with an offence of possession of a bladed article.

The case was adjourned and the pair are scheduled to appear at Leeds Crown court on Wednesday.

Issuing a statement on Sunday evening, a police spokesperson added: "West Yorkshire Police would ask members of the public not to speculate on social media on the events of January 16 in order to avoid prejudicing forthcoming court proceedings."

Mr Wilson's family released a statement over the weekend which read: "Robert was a loving and committed husband and father. As well as being loved and respected by work colleagues and friends. He leaves behind a devastated wife, Elaine, and two step children, Jack and Ella. The family would like to request privacy and respect during this difficult time."
