RAIL fares from the district into London have increased by more than £128.
Greater Anglia’s Southminster-Southend line to London has seen an average 2.6 per cent increase in season ticket prices.
The most expensive annual season tickets are from Southminster at £4,720 and Burnham at £4,712.
Annual tickets from Burnham, Southminster and Althorne to Liverpool Street are up £128 from last year.
The same ticket from North Fambridge will cost an extra £124, while South Woodham Ferrers has seen the smallest increase, of £120.
The hikes are down on last year’s 3.1 per cent rise.
A Greater Anglia spokesman said: Our average fare increase is just under 2.6 per cent, however we have frozen some of our ticket prices, including all of our advance fares which start from £6 and can be up to 60-70 per cent cheaper than walk-up fares.
“The increase applies to Government-regulated fares, such as season tickets and anytime singles and returns.
“We need to apply this increase, as many of our costs will rise by at least 2.8 per cent in line with inflation.”
