CONCERT-GOERS enjoyed themselves at a music performance by a choral group.

‘Sublime’ and ‘superb’ were just two of the words audience members used to describe Maldon Choral Society’s concert of Mozart last month at Maldon’s United Reformed Church.

A spokesman said: “The lively and tuneful Coronation Mass opened the programme and was followed by a piano duet – Mozart’s Fantasia in F minor – performed by the choir’s director Gillian Ward Russell and Caroline Finlay.

“Their virtuoso playing was amply rewarded by the audience’s applause.

“After the interval Mozart’s Requiem was given a powerful rendition by the choir and guest soloists Helen Withers (soprano), Nancy May (mezzo-soprano), Xavier Hetherington (tenor) and Jack Lawrence-Jones (baritone), with a rich piano duet accompaniment provided by Caroline Finlay and Duncan Archard, and conducted by Gillian Ward Russell.

“Another regular member of the audience commented that the choir gets better with each ensuing concert.”

There is another opportunity to see Maldon Choral in action when they take part in a traditional carol concert on Saturday, December 14, at 6pm at All Saints’ Church, Maldon.

They will be joined by the choir of All Saints’ Primary School, Maldon.

Admission is £7 for adults and free for children.

Tickets are available from the Visitor Information Centre in Maldon Town Hall, on Market Hill, or by calling 0333 6663366.
