A MUM who lost her daughter to an undiagnosed heart condition has raised money for a life-saving defibrillator.

Kate Bome has raised more than £60,000 for the Charlotte Adams Memorial Fund, a charity she set up to help others avoid the same tragedy.

A second village defibrillator has been installed at Great Totham Village Hall where her daughter Charlotte Adams, who was 23, attended nursery.

Kate, who has worked at Great Totham Primary School since 1998, said: “My beautiful daughter Charlotte died in November 2014 from an undiagnosed heart condition.

“The terrible ordeal of losing my gorgeous girl has made me want to do positive things to keep her alive in our hearts and trying to prevent another family going through the same heartache.

“It feels pretty surreal to have installed a second defibrillator that can buy people time and can hopefully make a difference or save someone’s life.

“Fundraising for her and the defibrillators is like putting her name everywhere.

“It’s not a replacement for her, but it keeps her in everyone’s memories.”

The charity has also funded heart screening events at the primary school, in partnership with Cardiac Risk in the Young.

The screenings cost £5,000 per event.

In October the fund held a screening for 106 young people, of whom two were referred for cardiac issues.

Kate, from Chelmsford, added: “The screenings are really important.

“Charlotte was a healthy young adult with her whole life ahead of her and she died in her sleep for no reason.

“They believe she had an arrhythmia problem from birth - if she’d had the screening, it could’ve saved her life.”

Kate will be hosting a Black-Tie Ball on Saturday, marking the fifth anniversary of Charlotte’s death.

The event, which sold more than 160 tickets in 24 hours, will be held at the Lion Inn in Boreham and will feature a live comedian and female vocalist.

Kate has arranged an auction and raffle, with one of the top prizes being a Caribbean holiday thanks to Resort Marketing International.
