A MUSEUM has hailed a series of tribute nights for charity a huge success after breaking the £2,000 barrier.

Langford’s Museum of Power raised £2,127 for their own funds and homelessness charity Shelter through the Sandy Denny tribute evenings.

Organiser Lyz Le Fay is now planning auditions for another tribute night which will include Fleetwood Mac favourites.

Lyz said: “Being a musician, and in the past organising two tribute nights at another venue, I thought why not try another tribute night – this time raising funds for charity?

“The idea of Sandy Denny came to me as she is much desired amongst the folk world, having sung with Fairport Convention, Fotheringay, and the Strawbs.

“I thought, as well as bringing people from across Essex to hear the sounds of her songs once again, I also brought local and very talented musicians and vocalists together, bringing them out of their comfort zones.

“The performances were a complete success.

“I am truly humbled by the hard work that all performers put in. Rehearsing most weeks, the band and vocalists worked hard.

“The dates soon came around and we performed to around 150 people in all.”

The museum aims to host another series of fundraisers in October 2020.

Lyz will be holding auditions for singers at the museum on December 18 from 5pm to 9pm and December 21 from noon to 5pm.

She added: “I look forward to getting the new project underway in the New Year, and I thank everyone involved in the Sandy Denny events.

“I also thank the people who came and supported the evenings by buying tickets and putting into the donation pots – your generosity is greatly appreciated.”
