A musical duo stormed a stage in Maldon to celebrate 25 years of writing, playing and performing together.

Winners of the Best Duo category at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and ten times nominated for Best Duo, Best Song & Best Live Act, Chris While and Julie Matthews arrived Saturday, October 26.

The macTheatre group saw them rock Maldon Town Hall with some of the first live renditions of their impressive new album Revolution Calls, released last month.

Nicola Esson from macTheatre said: “Chris While and Julie Matthews have been pioneering as a musical duo over the last 25 years, paving the way for women in the industry.

“They’re inspiring not only as performers, songwriters, producers and musicians but as humanitarians where their talent and artistic practise raises awareness.

"They tackle these issues in a true Folk style, heard in their latest collection of new songs.”

Their musical partnership began when as key members and writers in the legendary folk-rock group The Albion Band.

While and Matthews are now at the top of their field and are more prolific than ever.

They have had a tremendous creative run up to their anniversary; performing The Ballads of Child Migration as a Live Broadcast and gaining a standing ovation at The Royal Albert Hall.

Upon returning to Australia on their 12th tour, they were named ‘Artists of the Year’ at the prestigious Port Fairy Music Festival, one of the biggest events of its kind.

Both multi-instrumentalists, their musical careers have also seen many successful solo albums and a variety of projects outside of the duo.

Their solo ventures include a collaboration with Maldon songwriter and guitarist David Hughes and Fairport Convention’s Chris Leslie.

This summer also saw While and Matthews play at Shrewsbury Festival with an amazing line-up of artists.
