A WOMEN’S Institute is celebrating after hitting a major milestone.
Tollesbury WI turned 100 this month, and to celebrate, the group met in the village square for a coach ride to the Bull restaurant at Great Totham.
Author Sarah Harrison – best known for her book The Flowers of The Field – also delivered a guest speech at the event.
A group spokesman said: “Sarah turned out to be a most entertaining speaker on the kind of subjects that resonate with a group of ladies of a certain age.
“She had us laughing about ladies’ toilets, girls’ school bloomers, childbirth, school sandals, different ways of bringing up children and, finally, the round robin of family achievements which is the curse of many Christmas cards.
“It takes a special gift to keep a diverse group of ladies laughing about the past as Sarah did. It rounded off the perfect evening.”
