STUDENTS and staff honoured our country’s armed services by taking part in a national fundraising day.

Ormiston Rivers Academy, in Burnham, celebrated the annual Red, White and Blue Day, which is run jointly by the Soldiers’ Charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.

Students stumped up the cash by donating £1 each to dress in non-school uniform.

They wore themed colours of red, white and blue.

Those who are members of cadet groups proudly wore their uniforms at school.

Headteacher Emma Baker said: “I am very proud of our students for recognising the significant contribution made by our armed services and for raising funds for this very worthwhile cause.”

In the build-up to the event, the academy held assemblies to drive home the importance of celebrating the work of the country’s serving military.

Students were educated on the role of the different branches of the armed forces.

They were also taught about the work carried out by each of the charities to help veterans and serving soldiers.
