RESIDENTS are being warned not to fall victim to council tax scams.
Maldon District Council raised the alarm after reports of telephone, text and email cons pretending to be from the council.
A spokesman said: “We do not process council tax refunds online and so we will not send you an email or text requesting your bank details. We will also never ask you to pay a fee to obtain a refund.
“Never click on a link or share your bank details if you are unsure of the source.”
If taxpayers are unsure if an email they have received from the council is legitimate, they can call 01621 854477 to check.
