Fire engines were called to Mundon Road at around 1.00 am to attend to 20 tonnes of hay and a trailer that had caught on fire.
Crews from Maldon, South Woodham Ferrers, and Corringham worked to bring the fire under control and extinguished it by 4.25am.
Crews then stayed at the scene for some time to continue turning over and dampening down hay and ensure it was completely cool.
The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental.
