A charity enjoyed a walk out this month at Maldon promenade as part of a scheme to support adult carers.

‘Step Out Walking Group’, funded by the Carers Trust and The People’s Postcode Lottery, aims to improve health and well-being across Essex.

The Maldon group went on a treasure hunt through the park and talked to peers to relieve the pressures of being unpaid carers.

Kathy Hems, Young Carers School Link Worker, said: “We followed clues and directions to eliminate place names on a treasure map.

“We had a lovely walk at a leisurely pace covering about two miles in a couple of hours, finishing with refreshments at the Rose and Crown pub.

“One walker said he’d had fun on a lovely walk, met new people and exercised his brain.

“Another walker said she had enjoyed chatting to new people, finding out some local history and had found it to be fun, friendly, helpful and good exercise.

“New walkers who would like a break from their caring role are welcome to join us.

“We are offering some free respite care for their loved ones at our day centre so that those who wouldn't otherwise get a chance to join in have this opportunity."

There are 12 walks planned weekly between now and November 12.
