In response to two letters that appeared in the Standard on August 8, the council would like to make it clear that when it grants planning permission for a development, it enters into a legal agreement with the developers regarding affordable housing.
Regardless of which housing association will own and manage the affordable units, once developed, all of the affordable homes for rent on first occupation will be restricted to enable local people to apply in accordance with the council’s policy.
This gives priority to local people in the greatest housing need.
We hope that this will help to make the situation clear for your readers.
