A PAIR of Maldon residents have been honoured with the post of Deputy Lieutenants of Essex.
The Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Jennifer Tolhurst announced Bryan Burrough and Fiona Nelmes as her new deputies.
Mr Burrough was appointed as the High Sheriff of Essex having lived in the county for almost 25 years.
Mrs Nelmes moved to Essex in 2000 to become a consultant solicitor, retiring in 2010.
She has had a major presence in Maldon since 2003, when she started volunteering at Maldon Citizens Advice.
The role of the Deputy Lieutenant is to assist the Lord Lieutenant in her most important duties.
Mrs Tolhurst said: “I am delighted to be able to make these appointments.
“The individuals concerned have made a great contribution to the county and fully deserve the recognition they have received.”
They are two of eight new people to be appointed to the roles.
