BURNHAM Fire Station will roll up its doors for an open day on August 10.

Crew manager Finbar Tubby said the annual event is important in raising awareness about fires.

He said: “The open day is where we invite the public to come along to meet the crew, see the equipment, join in on demonstrations, such as using hoses, virtual reality road traffic collision simulation and watching a live chip pan fire demonstration, and learn about the fire service and fire safety.

“We also invite along other agencies to help raise their profiles and show what they do as well. These include the community first responders, coast guard, ambulance hazardous team, police and emergency doctors.”

There will also be food, drink and a bouncy castle for youngsters.

Mr Tubby added: “We also use the day to raise money for local charities such as the community first responders and Row Aurora, who crossed the Atlantic to raise awareness of plastic pollution.”
