TIME is running out for residents to have their say on a fresh proposal to build more than 1,100 houses.

Developer Countryside Properties launched an appeal after their 1,138-home plans on land near to Broad Street Green in Heybridge was rejected by Maldon District Council in June.

A revised North Heybridge Garden Suburb blueprint now includes at least 30 per cent of affordable homes.

Only one public objection has been received so far to the proposals.

Resident David Thompson said: “We live in Heywood Way and have done so for the last 40 years.

“In that time, we have seen the traffic increase tremendously to the point where it is regularly gridlocked from Broad Street Green into Maldon and Langford Road into Maldon.

“New houses, despite any relief road, can only make this worse.

“We all know the houses will be built and any relief road will be a distant pipe-dream.

“Added to this, we live on a flood plain, the fields forming a natural soak-away.

“I don’t want to have my house flooded or to sit on a bus or in my car stuck in traffic all day.”

Any representations over the proposal must be received in writing by August 12.
