ARTWORK evoking the joy of summer is being shown at a special exhibition in Maldon from this week.

The Summer Sensations exhibition is being staged by the Hayletts Gallery and sees ten artists showcasing work inspired by this time of year.

A vibrant mix of oils, watercolours, acrylics, etchings and linocuts celebrate the very essence of summer, from days out at the beach and hazy fields to boats, harbours, estuary birds and life by the sea.

A spokesman said: "This exhibition reflects a fascinating mixture of fine art as everyone’s perception of summer is so different."

Jo Rizzato expresses the wonders of Essex with fresh colourful semi abstract seascapes painting in bold brush strokes.

Chris Corr's sumptuous colourful paintings in gouache illustrating the vibrancy, fun and life at the beach.

Kit Leese portrays extraordinary vast Essex skies and landscapes using clear, loose watercolours.

Barbara Peirson reflects the feeling of walking through typical paths of north Essex surrounded by reed beds and river estuaries, with the occasional dog-walker or swimmer in the distance.

Heidi Juke’s instinctive oils are inspired by the quality of light seen in Essex.

The other artists are Iona Howard, Niki Bower, Sally Pudney, Melvyn Evans and Jane Lewis.

The exhibition runs from July 20 to August 31 at Hayletts Gallery in the High Street.
