A FLOWER show is set to return at the end of the month.

Tillingham Flower Show takes place on Saturday, July 27, from 2pm to 5pm and promises a day of fun for all the family.

The day starts with a procession through the village, leaving the former White Horse pub on the Dengie Straight from 1pm.

The show then opens on the West Field at 2pm and will feature handicraft and horticulture tents.

There is a return of the village stocks where friends and family can nominate people to take their turn in the stocks.

Other events include Wobbly Ron’s dog scurry, Tillingham Tigers penalty shoot-out, a dog show sponsored by Dengie Crops, vintage tractors and cars, wood carving demonstrations, hog roast, a barbecue, ice-creams, tombolas, raffles and many events in the arena, including a demonstration of the ‘jaws of life’ by Tillingham firefighters and a dance display by Grapevine, before finishing with a tug-of-war competition.

A show spokesman said: “Tillingham Flower Show is back for another year of fun for all the family.

“It’s great to see the community pull together, from Tillingham Tigers Youth Football Club and the fire station to St Nicholas’ Primary School and the pre-school.

“It’s great to welcome back the WI this year with a float after the Tillingham WI group has been reformed with many more members.

“Their floats were always one of the parade highlights over the years.

“And we can’t wait to see who takes their turn in the Tillingham stocks.

“Local celebs already in the line-up include Reverend Steven Poss and Tillingham's own firefighters.

“Local organic farm Sarah Green’s Organics, has been working with St Nicholas Primary School to introduce a gardening club, and many of the children will be entering homegrown veg into the flower show classes.

“All we need now is the sunshine.”
