CAMPAIGNERS fighting plans for almost 100 homes in their village packed a meeting to oppose the proposals last night.

Developer Gladman wants to build 99 houses on a site off of Mell Road, Tollesbury.

But the plans haves sparked anger with residents, who say the village is unable to cope with so many new homes.

They say it would put extra pressure on existing services.

MP Priti Patel, who was at Thursday night's meeting, has slammed the proposals as "appalling" but fears the developers will "use whatever tactics they can" to get planning permission.

She claimed the development is widely opposed in the village.

Ms Patel said: "These plans will wreck Tollesbury, pose a real danger to road safety and will put unacceptable burdens on our schools and GP surgeries.

"The planned development is ill-thought-through and completely inappropriate.

"I will stand with local residents in opposing this development and it is great to see them organising a strong campaign to fight off Gladman.”
