COUNTY Hall’s decision to keep all of Essex’s libraries open is a victory for people power.

Thousands made their voices heard following outrage at plans to axe 25 of the county’s libraries.

For months they kept up the pressure during Essex County Council’s consultation over the future of the service.

Now it seems County Hall bosses have listened – although full details area still to be revealed.

In an astonishing U-turn, Tory county council leader David Finch now says he is “delighted” people have rallied behind their local libraries.

After the kicking the Conservatives got in May’s local elections, it looks like those at County Hall are now desperate to get an angry electorate back on side.
