A PERFORMING arts school is offering two lucky young people scholarships for a whole year to learn dancing, acting and singing.

Maldon Theatretrain, a professional part-time theatre school for young people between the ages of three to 18, is offering two free year-long scholarships.

The weekly classes, which are held on Saturdays, provide professional training and the scholarships include one year’s free training, uniform, free workshops with West End stars, stage combat workshops, free musical theatre exams and excellent performance opportunities.

On completion of the year-long scholarship, pupils will receive a certificate in recognition of their training.

Centre director Mark Everard said: “This is an excellent opportunity for young people and it makes us very happy to know that two young people will benefit from this opportunity.

“We are not necessarily looking for those with great voices, dance skills or acting technique but for those young people who will bring plenty of energy, enthusiasm and dedication.”

Since Theatretrain came to Maldon in 2007, its pupils have performed at the London Palladium, Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Saddlers Wells, the O2 Arena, the Royal Albert Hall and twice in the parade at Disneyland Paris.

They have worked with West End cast members on Blood Brothers, Wicked, The Lion King, Matilda, Annie and Les Miserables.

Classes are held every Saturday from 2pm to 5pm in term time and are run from All Saints’ Primary School in Highlands Drive.

The closing date for application is Saturday, July 13. To apply, visit theatretrain.co.uk/Maldon.
