A NEW memorial in one of our villages to those who fought and died in the First World War is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by so many.

The memorial was formally unveiled in Great Totham on Friday.

The day marked the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles – the official ending of the Great War.

It is only right that we continue to honour those heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country a century ago.

Helping us to do just that today are Vision In Song – a choir made up of blind Armed Forces veterans from Essex, including Maldon.

Their rendition of old favourite Pack Up Your Troubles In Your Old Kit Bag might help give us all some perspective on our lives today.
