THE carnival court for this year’s Burnham procession has now been selected following a rigorous judging process and a lucky dip.

Burnham Carnival Committee held a queen and princess selection evening to decide who will don the glittering crowns and sashes at this year’s Burnham-on-Crouch Carnival, which is being held on September 28.

The queen was decided by a judging panel made up of representatives from other surrounding carnivals and the pair of princesses were chosen after their names were drawn from a hat.

After deliberations by the judging panel, Amy Parsons, of Ormiston Rivers Academy, was given the highly sought-after role of carnival queen, while Hannah Young, from St Mary’s Primary School, and Sophie-Mae Thiselton, of Burnham Primary School, secured their place on the float as this year’s princesses.

The trio will now take their thrones during this year’s illuminated Burnham-on-Crouch Carnival – considered to be one of the most successful in the South East.

Amy said: “It means a lot to me to representing Burnham in the carnival this year.

“I have been involved in the carnival since I was younger and I am delighted to continue to do so.”

The colourful convoy will set off at 7.30pm from the landmark Clock Tower after a day of competitions, events and High Street stalls.

Carnival committee spokesman Wayne Martin said: “The carnival is coming along nicely with most of the day-time acts booked, including dance acts and even a BMX stunt display.

“We have more stalls booked than ever before and it’s sure to be really great.”
