AN annual show of competitions, crafts and even a bit of Crufts-style canine fun is set to delight visitors this weekend.

The Blackwater Country Show – now in its 14th year – is coming to Chigborough Road, Heybridge, on Sunday.

The show welcomes thousands of visitors and is one of the biggest events on the area’s calendar.

Funds from the event will support the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

The Blackwater Country Show was formed in 2006 and has raised more than £65,000 for charity.

The huge range of attractions at the show includes the chance to see life-saving Newfoundland dogs rescuing people from the water, the paddlesport team showcasing the speed and agility of lightweight canoes across the lake, Vikings in their living village and to handle birds of prey.

A new addition is the Tigers young motorcycle display team performing tricks, stunts and jumps.

Show organiser Michelle Watkinson said: “In our 14th year, there is lots of fun and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy in the surroundings of the countryside.

“By the lake visitors can relax to Victorian music or acoustic guitar melodies with a refreshing drink while watching the show.”

There will also be a wide selection of food and drink, craft exhibits, displays from Essex Police, dog competitions and tractor displays.

For children, there will be chances to practise clay-shooting, archery and canoeing as well as seeing a variety of animals.

Tickets cost £9 for adults, £4 for children under-16 and £23 for a family of two adults and two children.

Advance tickets can be bought from Maldon Tourist Information Centre or Point Graphics in Maldon High Street.
