A BRAVE youngster has raised almost £1,000 by chopping off her hair for charity.

Danica Carroll, eight, donated more than 12 inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair.

So far Danica, of Cold Norton, has raised £940, which already covers the £550 needed to make her hair into a wig to donate to children with cancer.

Mum Katherine says she is proud of her daughter.

She said: “Danica had seen a story on TV two years ago when she was six about a young girl who had lost her hair from cancer.

“She said the girl could have some of hers as hers will grow back.

“She then asked if she could send some to her.

“I thought it was just an immediate reaction and said you will need to grow it and left it at that, thinking I wouldn’t hear any more. Since that day Danica has asked if her hair was long enough to donate.

“I told her about the Little Princess Trust and agreed that because she has really thought about what she wants to do, she could donate it after her first Holy Communion which allowed her more time to grow her hair.”

The Hair Hub in South Woodham Ferrers cut her hair for free and Katherine said staff were amazing. She added: “Her local Theatretrain group in Maldon has been amazing too and had a cake sale to support her which raised £45.

“I would like to thank everyone for all the donations and support. It’s everyone’s generosity which has helped make the difference.”

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs free of charge to children and young people up to the age of 24.
