A series of sports events is set to come to the Dengie this weekend.

The 9th Big East Triathlon will see dozens of competitors gather at Bradwell Marina this Sunday.

At the same time, cyclists will take part in the Tour of the Dengie Cycle Sportive and Fun Ride.

There are two distances to choose for the triathlon – challenge distance and middle distance.

The challenge distance is an 800m swim, 43km cycle and a 10km run while the middle distance is a 1.6km swim, 82km cycle and a 20km run.

The event consists of an open water swim in the River Blackwater, a cycle around the quiet roads of the Dengie Peninsula and finishes with a lapped run around the sea wall and marshes passing the historic St Peter’s Chapel.

Alongside this, there will be a cycling event which starts at the same location.

Both events start at 11.20am.

Every entrant will receive an event memento and goodie bag at registration and a medal when they finish.

Trophies will be awarded for top three males, top three females, veteran male and veteran female.

At the finish, there will be refreshments along with a barbecue provided by Bradwell Marina Bar and Cafe.
