A TRADITIONAL fair with rides dating back to the Victorian era are set to delight visitors in Maldon.

The Carters Steam Fair is coming to Promenade Park from this Saturday until June 2.

Carters Steam Fair is a traditional English travelling funfair with rides dating from the 1890s to the 1960s.

The piece of living history has been rescuing and restoring vintage fairground rides and attractions for the past 40 years.

The owners take them on tour around London and the South East for everyone to enjoy.

One of its special features is the decoration of its engines, rides and transport, with superb signwriting, lining and traditional fairground decorations created by Joby Carter and his team.

A spokesman said: “Experience the thrills of a bygone era and feast your senses – the rock ‘n’ roll music, sumptuous colours, steam engines, twinkling lights, lilting fairground organ, the aroma of doughnuts, candy floss and coal.

“The collection of rides and side stalls makes Carters the largest travelling vintage funfair in the world.

“Carters Steam Fair is now the custodian of an incredible collection of beautiful vintage rides and attractions that would otherwise have been lost, and they are a highly skilled restoration team helping other people save items of British heritage.”

There will also be a free firework display this Saturday at 9pm.

Entry to the fair is free, while ride tokens can be bought online or at the fair.

Token prices can range from £20 to £100 and cater for children, families and groups.

Tokens allow visitors to take up to 70 rides.

The fair is open daily from 11am to 7pm and 11am to 10pm on Saturdays.
