A SUPERLATIVE trio of musicians bring their considerable talents to Maldon at the end of the month.

The Dan Walsh Trio, made up of Dan Walsh, Ciaran Algar and Nic Zuppardi, will be upstairs at the Blue Boar in Silver Street on Tuesday, May 28 from 8pm.

Dan is known for a variety of banjo techniques in his performances, and in particular his dazzling take on clawhammer-style banjo, helping to challenge any preconceptions about the instrument.

A BBC Folk Award nominee for Best Musician, his song-writing gives the trio a wonderful edge.

Dan has taken both his solo show and with the Urban Folk Quartet to Maldon for a number of years.

Ciaran Algar is a multi-instrumentalist who is quickly becoming one of the most highly regarded young musicians on the folk circuit.

His influences come from deep within the Irish tradition and he spent five years with the band Tri before university.

He will be familiar to many for his successful duo with Greg Russell which made them BBC Folk Award winners twice.

Nic Zuppardi, of the Shakleton Trio and Clark Zuppardi Hartley, is a mandolin player and multi-instrumentalist who performs regularly in the UK and abroad, with an eclectic musical background which includes a keen interest in the American traditions of old-time and bluegrass music, as well as traditional folk from the British Isles and across Europe.

Show organiser Nicola Timson said: “There’s a real creative family emerging in the Maldon district on the folk and acoustic scene.

“Having the Dan Walsh Trio bring their stirring, emotive sound is inspiring, energising and uniting to the community as a whole.

“It will be a super-charged evening.”

Tickets are £12.50 and details can be found at mactheatre.org.uk.
