A THEATRE group has thanked audiences who helped them to raise more than £500 for charity.

Maldon Pantomime Society raised money for the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity with its show Alice in Wonderland in January.

Charity trustee David Rome was presented with a cheque for £507 by society chairman Kevin Dawson Jennings.

A society spokesman said: “Cast members, including Alice, the Mad Hatter, White Rabbit and Cheshire Cat came out to meet the audiences after each of the six sold-out shows and collected loose change for the charity.

“We would like to thank everyone for their generosity and are proud to pass the donation on to the Helen Rollason Cancer.”

This year, Kevin steps down as chairman to direct The Wizard of Oz.

He said: “It’s one of the most loved stories of all time.

“I’m very much looking forward to working with some incredible people who love to perform.”

The show will run across the last two weekends in January 2020.

A script read-through takes place on June 20 at Maldon Town Hall.

Auditions are on July 5 at St Peter’s Social Hall in Spital Road.
