A BUDDING beekeeping entrepreneur is looking to relocate her hive closer to home so she can tend to them more often.

Maldon Beekeepers’ junior members, the Buzzy Bees, are looking for a small site in Tillingham for two hives.

Mini member Scarlett Dawson, six, of North Street, hopes to take care of her 60,000 bees which are currently with team leader and grandmother Carlie Mayes in Ulting.

Scarlett’s mother, Zara Travers, says her daughter started beekeeping when she was just five.

Zara said: “She absolutely loves her bees.

“We are looking to bring her hive to Tillingham so she can tend to them herself more frequently.

“We are just trying to find somewhere suitable for her and the other junior beekeepers.

“Scarlett has her own honey so we sell some to cover the costs of her hives.

“It’s very popular, especially with Scarlett, but she sells it and saves up for her bees and her beekeeping.”

Zara says her daughter is not afraid of the insects.

She said: “Scarlett has been stung but she understands why bees sting and that they sometimes get afraid just like we do.

“She has a fantastic mentor in her grandmother who runs the business side of it for her and has taught her how to do everything.”
