A series of art activities set in the heart of Maldon will be staged for the coming weeks.

The Maeldune Heritage Centre in town is hosting two shows, one running until May 4 and one from May 8 to May 25.

The first is Maldon Art Club’s Spring Into Art exhibition.

The well-established adult art group provides a varied programme of art activities in Maldon.

A spokesman said: “This exhibition is a new venture for the club and is an opportunity to acquire an original artwork or print at an affordable price.

“As the club membership has grown over the last few years, so has the standard and variety of subjects, styles and artistic techniques that are on display.

“Both the framed pictures and the prints can be taken home when purchased.”

The club usually meets at Plume Academy dining hall in Fambridge Road from 7pm to 9.30pm on Tuesday evenings until June.

The second event is presented by fine artist Silke Ukena.

Her Bloom exhibition sees her return to the town for the third time and will include watercolour paintings, pastels and life drawings, vibrant figurative work, landscape and floral work.

Silke said: “I am delighted to show my work again at this beautiful old library in the centre of Maldon.

“I am combining this exhibition with the launch of my beginner’s workshops called ‘I wish I could paint’.

“Having often been asked in the past to teach, I now hope to inspire many who want to learn.

“The creative arts are so much fun and I believe everyone is an artist.”

Visitors can meet Silke in person on May 11 and May 25 between 11am and 1pm.
