More than 50 bags of rubbish were collected during two community group litter picks.

Friends of Southminster Community Open Spaces and Asheldham Residents Group (ARG) carried out community litter picks in their areas, with 25 volunteers coming out to support the events.

In Southminster, the group gathered around 15 bags of litter, while in Asheldham a whopping 40 bags of litter were filled across Asheldham and Dengie parish.

Colin Cooper, chairman of ARG was very "disappointed" by the amount of litter his group discovered during their litter pick.

He said: “It’s hugely disappointing that we are still picking up so much litter from the verges - I do wish that people would take their rubbish home and dispose of it responsibly."

The next ARG litter pick will take place in November.
