A project to revamp a village hall is set to receive thousands of pounds of extra funding.

The £227,000 Goldhanger Village Hall project has secured £2,000 from Tesco’s Bags of Help community grant scheme.

A successful funding bid for £15,000 has also been made to the Garfield Weston Foundation.

Voting ran in Tesco stores throughout January and February to choose which community project would receive funding.

Village hall trustee Jill Crooks said: “We were bowled over by the community effort involved to obtain this award, the voting bins in Maldon’s Tesco almost became a meeting place for residents.

“We would like to extend a big thank you to everyone for their support. This tremendous support from funders and residents has brought our project to life.

“The digging has begun and work is now underway to create an inclusive community space for all to enjoy.”

The Garfield Weston Foundation is a family-founded, grant-making charity, established in 1958, which gives away £70million annually.
