A BRIDGE in the Dengie is set to close until the leaves change colour in autumn.

Essex County Council have released an update on their plans to close Mundon Wash Bridge for essential repairs for several months.

This will mean the closure of Mundon Road as well from next Tuesday for 24 hours every day.

A council spokesman said: “Assessments show that the existing structure, which dates back to the 1940s, is in a weak condition that requires replacing.

“It currently consists of three sections which run under the carriageway, two concrete box structures and concrete pipe.

“The works involve temporarily diverting the waterway and statutory utility pipes and cables prior to the removal of the existing structure.

“Two pre-cast concrete box sections will be placed side-by-side before headwalls, wingwalls and carriageway are reconstructed.

We urge all drivers to take additional care and to observe advance signage, including diversions which may be subject to change according to other works on Fambridge Road.”

Traffic will be diverted to Main Road in Mundon, Burnham Road, Fambridge Road (B1018), Barons Lane (B1010), Maldon Road(A414) and Limebrook Way.
