A SCHOOL has reaffirmed its commitment to getting the community pool fixed by the end of the month.

Southminster Church of England Primary School responded to concerns from residents who missed out on weeks of lessons.

After a meeting with parish councillors John Anderson and Gordon Harrold and clerk Joanna Jeffery, the school released a public statement.

Executive Headteacher Pauline Ward said: “Following a meeting with parish councillors, I would like to provide an update on the situation at Southminster swimming pool.

“The pool closure has been due to essential work taking place, with the associated delay due to obtaining quotes, sourcing funding and other things.

“Some of the maintenance and replacement work has now taken place.

“The outstanding work has been scheduled for the remainder of this term or during the Easter break when the school will be closed, between Saturday, April 6 and Wednesday, April 24.

“We are still on track to open as soon as school reopens on Thursday, April 25.

“I would like to stress that there is absolutely no intention by the school or the Vine Schools Trust to close Southminster Pool.

“Indeed, it is one of the school’s priorities to maximise the use of the pool by the public, so that it is an even better community resource than it is at present.

“As part of that commitment, the school is planning to employ a full-time member of staff to focus on the pool, providing swimming sessions as well as maximising its use.

“We will, of course, consult with the community to try to offer the range of activities that they want and to meet the needs of as many groups as possible.

“I trust that this statement provides an update to assure the community that work is progressing towards the pool opening within the timescale referred to in the previous statement.

“I will provide further updates should relevant information become available, including on the school website.”
