A SELFLESS schoolboy has been commended by the High Sheriff of Essex.

The sheriff visited the creator of Jacob's Backpack Campaign, Jacob Rabi-Laleh, eight at his school, Wentworth Primary in Viking Road, Maldon.

Chairman of Maldon District Council, Henry Bass also joined at the event to congratulate the youngster, who has put together a total of 350 backpacks for the homeless community.

A spokesman for Wentworth Primary School, said: "Wentworth was very proud to welcome the High Sheriff of Essex who came to present Jacob with a High Sheriff Award.

"These awards are designed to reward the volunteers, charities and community groups who devote their time and energy to improve the communities in which they live and work.

"Well Done Jacob for all your hard work with backpacks for the homeless."
