AN arts festival is returning for its 12th year thanks to a grant worth thousands of pounds.

The Maldon Festival of Arts will be going ahead this summer thanks to £4,000 from the Essex Community Foundation.

The funding has been awarded from the Middlewick Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund and the Bradwell B Fund.

Festival director Colin Baldy said: “The festival is a wonderful event that brings together people from the Maldon district and beyond, to enjoy a range of music, art and theatre performances.

“Many of the activities and shows are free so everyone has the opportunity to enjoy what is on offer.

“A record number of people attended last year, and I encourage everyone to consider getting involved and join the celebration.”

Since it was founded in 1996, the trust has awarded grants totalling £34 million to voluntary and community organisations in Essex to support their vital work.

Chief executive Caroline Taylor said: “We are delighted to support this project.

“It is a brilliant example of local people working together for the benefit of the wider community.”

The festival, running from June 22 to July 6, will also feature in Maldon District Council’s Sense of Place initiative.
